Journey of Excellence From Studio

Peter Flood is a sculptor and ceramic artist whose work spans over five decades of thoughtful craftsmanship, spiritual exploration, and technical mastery. With a career that seamlessly weaves together fine art and business leadership, Peter continues to shape timeless forms from his studio in Jamestown, Rhode Island.

An Artistic Foundation

Peter earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Denver in 1975 and completed his Master of Fine Arts in sculpture at Southern Illinois University in 1977. During this time, he focused primarily on abstract sculpture—casting pieces in bronze, iron, and aluminum, alongside welded, carved wood, and mixed media works. His early sculptures ranged in scale from small tabletop pieces to works over 10 feet tall.

Blending Art With Industry

In 1977, Peter joined The Flood Company, his family’s manufacturing business, eventually becoming its President and CEO. Despite leading a major company for nearly 30 years, Peter remained committed to his artistic practice, maintaining an active sculpture and ceramics studio throughout. His unique ability to balance creative discipline with executive leadership has shaped both his art and professional life.

Figurative Focus and Public Commissions

In the 1990s, Peter’s work took a more figurative direction, often inspired by imagination rather than real individuals. Signature pieces like Mademoiselle (1991) and Amish (1993) reflect his interest in character, emotion, and human form. Several of his busts, including those of his father and grandfather, are on permanent display at the Hudson Public Library. In 1998, he was commissioned to sculpt a likeness of town founder David Hudson, now part of a time capsule at the same library.

A Spiritual Shift

After becoming a Christian in 1999, Peter began incorporating Christian themes into his work. He created a monumental 10-foot cross for Hudson Community Chapel in 2000 and a powerful sculpture of John the Baptist, now displayed at Christ Community Chapel. Additional commissions include crosses for churches in Newport, Rhode Island, and North Canton, Ohio. In 2000, Peter was honored with a 25-year retrospective solo show at the Moos Gallery in Hudson as part of the town’s bicentennial celebration.

Present Work and Legacy

Today, Peter works from his private studio in Jamestown, RI, where he continues to produce sculpture, fine ceramics, and limited-run pottery. His pieces are held in private collections, and his pottery—when made available—sells out within hours. Though not currently represented by galleries, his work speaks directly to collectors, interior designers, and individuals drawn to meaningful, finely crafted art.
